Announcing the 2016 Irish Whiskey Awards
We are proud to announce the Irish Whiskey Awards for 2016. The Awards will take place at the new Tullamore DEW Distillery in Co. Offaly on Thursday 20th October 2016.
With an ever increasing interest in Irish whiskey, it is more fitting than ever to recognise the excellence and innovation by producers and distillers.
This year, we are holding a blind tasting of entries will be spit over two Saturdays on September 3rd and September 10th. White spirits (Gin, Vodka & Poitín) will be blind tasted by members of the trade on Monday 12th September in No. 10 Stephen's Green. Entries will be tasted amongst other category entrants. Voting duties will be carried out by members of the Celtic Whiskey Club and also by the Irish Whiskey Society. We will allow up to 160 members to register to take part in the tasting. We will also allow up to 40 overseas members to register and we’ll send samples by post. Anyone submitting samples is welcome to be at the venue to check they are happy with the procedures in place. We will be getting all tasters to mark each whiskey out of 100 and voting will be done anonymously. After the awards we will release all scores only to the industry. Any submitted entries will be solely used for evaluation purposes. Each category winner will receive a trophy & runners up will get Gold Medals.
How to submit an entry
This year we are inviting all whiskey producers to submit their entries by 11th August 2016. An application form must be completed for each entry. Only whiskeys that will still be available (in retail) in October 2016 can be entered.
The awards are free to enter and we are inviting all wholesalers, distillers, bottlers, and indeed anyone with their own whiskey brand to get involved.
